Elderly are known to be prone to falling, especially in the midnight getting up from bed for toilet. Therefore, prevention of fall in hospital is high priority. However, it still happens in every hospital despite all kinds of effort. Consequently, it lies on medical staff to be well aware of the potentially lethal resulting from a simple fall.
Unfortunately, an old man lost his life due to a combination of human error. Nurse was insensitive to family's complaint on drowsiness of patient. Front line doctor was unable to be decisively ordering a CT scan even though patient's both pupil were dilated. Finally, a CT scan was done under the demand of neurosurgeon.
Unsurprisingly, by the poor prognosis of the patient, he past away on the next day after emergent surgery. And, from my point of view, the only reason for the emergent surgery was done is to show family that they've done something to treat him even though he stood of no change of survival.
Disappointing!!!
